Scott Gilbert of Swarthmore has produced
a book that should have been written a long time ago but wasn't - a guide to embryology written for those who are engaged in debates about stem cell research and cloning. Because they, um, don't, um, always have their facts straight. Scott puts it ever so gingerly: "Missing from most debates about stem cell research is a basic knowledge of human development ... 'Before we can have any informed discussion, people need to understand what an embryo and its cells can and cannot do at various stages.'" Gilbert wrote the book with two of his former students.
